Transforming my beloved mother’s 63 year old wedding dress from a dress to a skirt
🕊️ New YouTube video: Transforming my Mother’s Wedding Dress is up! 🎉
My mother and father were married 63 years ago on April 7. Sadly, they both left this Earthly realm in the last four/four and a half years. This video is a tribute to them, a celebration of their long, vibrant love and all they gave to me.
When my brother and I were going through generations of endless things after their deaths, we stumbled upon my mother’s utterly pristine wedding dress which had been immaculately preserved for almost 60 years in our attic. It probably had not been touched for decades! I had never seen it before! My mother was not one for costumery, as I am! 🤣
You might have noticed if you’ve followed me for a while, that my love of theatrics is strong and due to that, I was drawn to recreate this exceptional piece! The reality was that there is no way I could fit into her dress, as my beloved mother was tall and slim and my own body type was more like my father’s Portuguese side of the family, voluptuous and short. I decided to find a seamstress who could transform her dress into a piece that I could wear, which is when I met the lovely Clare at Flying Needle Studios!
Please check out this video to see the process of this transformation and how healing it was for me to do this.
I had intended to release this video around my parents wedding anniversary on April 7, but life became full and well, better late than never, right?
This video was cathartic and healing to make. It is a testament to my beloved parents in honor of their 63rd wedding anniversary. It was a tremendously beautiful experience to transform my mothers sacred wedding dress into a piece of sacred art/clothing that I could actually wear, as there was NO WAY I could have fit into her dress, with my mom’s tall, slender frame!
A big mahalo goes out to Claire at Flying Needle Studios for this gorgeous transformation. It was so much fun to work with her on this!
I hope you enjoy this tender and authentic share.
Our beloveds are always with us. ♥️
