I've learned quite a bit in the last year about the do's and don'ts of preventing breast cancer. This is my own personal list of what has resonated with me and what I've learned. I've put a considerable amount of thought and research into this list.  We all have our own experiences and some of the items on my list may not resonate with you, which is just fine!  I encourage everyone to make their own decisions of what is in alignment with their body. I'd like to thank the members of the private cancer alternative healing Facebook group I created for their feedback on preventative advice. Thanks ladies for pitching in!

While I am talking about breast cancer here, most of these preventative measures can pertain to ALL cancers, although some of them are specific to healthy breast care, hence the title.

*Please note I am not a medical doctor, nor am I prescribing any direct medical advice here*

1. FEEL, EXPRESS & RELEASE YOUR EMOTIONS!

Stuck emotions create dormant energy in your body and guess what happens to that stagnant energy? It can potentially turn into illness of some sort, which could mean tumours, inflammation or other unhealthy mutations. Support your emotional healing by continuously releasing resentment, guilt and shame, practice cellular memory cleansing and avoid extreme stress and trauma. Talk, sing, dance, scream, write or do whatever serves you in releasing unhealthy baggage and then move on with your one wild and beautiful life!

2. AVOID MAMMOGRAMS

This might perplex you or ruffle your feathers but please know that mammograms can actually cause breast cancer by the immense amount of radiation exposure. Switzerland, who puts the health care of it's citizens first, has completely abolished mammogram screenings!   See: Switzerland A healthy alternative that will not nuke your breasts is thermography. A thermogram is a heat sensitive method to observe breast health, it can detect breast cancer far before a mammogram does and is a great long term, safe way to moniter yourself.

3. STAY AWAY FROM CHEMICALS

It is hard to avoid the constant bombardment of chemicals we're surrounded by in our modern day lifestyle but a bit of precaution will go a long way.  Avoid chemicals in beauty products, home cleaning products, toxic fertilizers, drink clean water, avoid aluminum foil and use safe, non toxic cookware. When I was 30, I worked on a flower farm on Kauai and was exposed to a massive amount of toxic chemicals, which I attribute to the growth of the breast cancer. If I known then that the exposure would seriously impact me years down the line I would have steered clear of that job!

4. DITCH THE UNDERWIRE BRAS LADIES!

Yes, Victoria's Secret trained us well to think that perky boobs are the way to go, but at what cost to our health? Most bras are made with tight, chemical laden fabric which constrict movement and lymph flow (see below about the  lymph). Tumors love to grow in areas where there is no movement.  If that's not enough to make you tear off your breast skivvy, the metal from your bra actually amplifies the EMF (see EMF section below) from your cell phone which actually radiates your breasts. If you wear an underwire bra you're actually inviting EMF's and microwave signals into your sensitive breast tissue!  See this awesome GOOP article for more info. (Do not ever put your cell phone in your bra either as you're directly inviting a tumor to tea!)

Solution: If you're larger breasted like I am, don't fret, there are many wonderful alternatives in the form of yoga bras which promote movement and provide support. I threw out my bras a year ago and have no regrets! Truth be told my ladies are actually livelier  than when they were stuck within Victoria's Secret's version of beauty and my breast muscles are actually working as they should be!

5. REDUCE ELECTRO MAGNETIC EXPOSURE (EMFS)

EMFs are a relatively new occurrence in our modern day lifestyle and yet we're surrounded by them through cell phones and their transmission towers, computers, portable phones and so much more.  While we can't escape being zapped by this silent but deadly force, we can reduce our exposure to them. Turn off your wifi when not in use, contact PGE and replace your SMART METER with a regular meter, use earpieces when talking on your cell phone, turn off your cell phone at night (at least have it on airplane mode), shield kids from EMF exposure as they are more vulnerable than adults to the damage, hardwire your house to replace wifi, don't live near a cell phone tower, avoid radiation from x-rays, body scanners at the airport (do the old fashioned pat down manner) and help spread the word! Check out my friend Jeromy Johnson's TEDx talk for more info.

6. EAT ORGANIC / AVOID GMO'S / DRINK FRESH VEGGIE JUICE

Paying attention to your diet is key to maintaining health. Eat organic whenever possible and avoid GMO's (Genetically modified organisms). Personally I highly recommend drinking vegetable juices everyday to get maximum nutrition packed into a delicious glass of liquid food. One of the main reasons I believe I am healing so rapidly in my cancer healing journey is the three 16 ounce glasses of fresh juice I drink 3X a day! It is a great preventative way to make sure your whole body stays healthy from multiples diseases and illnesses. For more info: JUICING

7. REDUCE MEAT CONSUMPTION

This topic is a bit controversial and is something that I have wrestled with in the last year of my health journey. When I was first diagnosed I immediately stopped eating meat for eight months.  When the protein in my blood tests started testing low, I was advised to eat more protein. (I am blood type O.)  Now I eat a bit of fish now and then and my body is definitely happier. The standard (SAD) American diet is meat heavy and we've been taught to get enough protein we must eat animals products daily. This belief is a direct result of the meat industry wanting to sell beef and has a fair amount of propaganda in it. (Always question what you're told!)  Watch Forks Over Knives for more info. There actually has been a direct correlation between high meat consumption and diseases such as cancer and other degenerative diseases.

8. STRESS AND SELF CARE

Did you know that stress is at the root of every disease? We live in an incredibly fast paced world where we're bombarded by media, constant busyness and life is full! When you're diagnosed with a life threatening condition everything becomes scrutinized. You realize the life circumstances that put you in a tizzy are simply not worth it. Stress can kill. The relationships, circumstances and patterns of behavior that create conflict can slowly erode your peace of mind which will eventually affect your health. Increasing self care can go a long way to building up healthy patterns of living that could prevent a scary cancer diagnosis.  Believe me, it is far more effective to reduce stress before you're staring an oncologist in the eye with a grim prediction, not to mention the obscene financial output a serious health diagnosis brings.

On that note, breast cancer patients tend to be care-givers. If you tend to fall into the pattern of easily taking care of others but being challenged to care for yourself, I highly encourage you to re-wire that pattern before you receive a breast cancer diagnosis. I have been a giver my whole life and when cancer came along it was a extreme challenge to learn to put myself first, but ultimately a blessing. It is a daily practice!

9. BIOLOGICAL DENTISTRY

This might be new information to you, but many of the common dentistry practices (root canals, cavitations, amalgam fillings) can actually cause cancer. "Biological dentistry is concerned with the whole body effects of all dental materials, techniques and procedures. It is fluoride-free, mercury-free and mercury-safe. Individualized testing for biocompatibility of dental materials is a must. It insists that all clinical practice be designed of components that sustain life or improve the patient’s quality of life. For the word “biological” refers to life. Clinical awareness and science show us that what happens in the mouth is reflected in the body, and what happens in the body is reflected in the mouth. The complex, dynamic relationships of oral and systemic health within the context of the whole person are inseparable" IABDM

Studies have shown that 93% of women with Breast Cancer had 1 or more root canals. Please read these artiucles: Root canals, Ask your dentistHuggins

10. EXERCISE, SWEAT & MOVE THE LYMPH

There are about 500-600 lymph nodes in the human body. "Lymph nodes are a part of your immune system. The immune system protects you from infection and other diseases. It includes your spleen, bone marrow, thymus, tonsils, adenoids, the lymph channels and the lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are in the neck, behind the ears, under the jaws and chin, under the armpits and in the groin. Exercise is a key factor for the proper function of the lymph nodes and the circulation of the lymphatic fluid throughout the body."  Livestrong  Another great way to keep the lymph moving is daily infrared saunas which is part of my healing regiment.
